Senior Energy Analyst
Avi Purkayastha has now joined GLA’s technical team as an energy analyst. He joins us after spending fifteen years at National Renewable Energy Lab (now renamed the National Lab of the Rockies) as a Senior Scientist. At NREL, he worked on a variety of clean and renewable energy projects across multiple domains and technologies, including wind, solar, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), along with innovations in the smart and power grids across the complete power generation and T/D pipeline. His work involved leading or assisting on multiple projects of various sizes with different stakeholders, with modeling using various tools and software across the energy domain to obtain analytical results, to inform and drive decision-making for all relevant public and private stakeholders.
After getting his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, and before joining NREL, he had previously worked in a number of academic institutions, including UT Austin, as a professor and research scientist. His previous work involved modeling with scientific software and tools of different scales, on various large-scale applications for different proposals and projects in both the public and private sectors. His past experience has also included a two-year stint at SiCortex as an application engineer, a startup building the whole hardware and software ecosystem for very energy-efficient and modular computing systems, as well as an independent solar consultant for a rooftop solar and consumer BESS system for a nationwide installer, Powur.
